Free Movie Nights in Hornsby Bend

Free movie nights are being offered at the basketball court in Austin’s Colony every other weekend throughout the summer.  Our next one is a little off schedule, being this coming weekend on 5/29/2011, but they will return to regular schedule starting the following weekend, 6/5/2011 at dusk.  Free popcorn, lemonade and snow-cones are provided and community participation is welcome.  Our next movie, this Saturday, is Narnia.  A full listing of movies will be in an upcoming newsletter.

Citizen’s Bond Advisory Committee
The Citizens’ Bond Advisory Committee is in full swing and the Bond Election for 2011 is fast approaching.  Many projects focus heavily on the East side of the County in both Precincts 1 and 2 and there is a lot on the table.  The committee is tasked with rendering down roughly $600 million in bond proposals to a package of around $150 million.  It’s a mean feat.
To do this, we need community input.  Although we are in the planning stages of community meetings, there will only be one in Precincts 1 and 2 respectively, hardly enough time to make a case for a project.  Please consider coming to one of our regular meetings to let the committee know how important East side projects are to you.  One, for example, is the expansion of FM 969 to 5 lanes.  Given the fact that it has more fatalities and accidents than every other safety project in the county combined, it’s one of my top priorities but I need your help. Aside from roads, there are drainage, park, cycling, bridge, and other projects on the board.  You can learn more at
http://www.co.travis.tx.us/citizens_bond_committee/.  We meet at the Joe C. Thompson Center on the UT campus off Red River every Thursday at 5:30 pm.  Come join us and let your voice be heard!
